But WN or LBN (work it out) was wearing a fetching purple jumper. Rather nice I didn't think. No wonder he gave me a scarf of the same batty colour before. I did like it as it matches my eye shadow and it did have a rather soft touch. Never, I thought, will I wear clothing of that colour. Anyway, cold it rather was the other day. I dugged in my wardrobe to find my woolly jumpers. Found some which I'd put away either as it was out of season or they had shrunk or I had got bigger. Found a really cuddly John Rocha one. Lovely and warm it was. Kinda a burnt chocolate colour with, yes, a purple trim to it.

Anyway, Curry House been busy over the hols. We finally moving with the new menu................tried a a couple of dishes from other local restaurants. Both tasted like pants....that reminds me. Back in a bit.

I have recently re-discovered Twiglets. Marmite covered wholegrain baked little things. Try 'em. Love 'em or hate 'em as they say. Remember it's a fine line between love and hate....

Weekend was funny again. We had a mid & late sitting but nowt early on.....Strictly final was on, and I should imagine our usual customers would watch this over X-factor.

Looking forward to a Saints away day on Christmas. IA the weather is clear but cold. The cold does clean things up so a visit to the coast should be refreshing to say the least.

Oooh oooh I made myself a bhuna to be proud of last night. It was sensational. Juicy tikka in a dryish sauce spiked with chilli flakes, garlic and a methi. As usual I didn't take a picture but judging by the sounds my tummy was making it was accepted with glee with no repercussions this morning......

Lamb Rogan Josh....

Went meat shopping.

Bought a huge leg of mutant dinosaur/sheep leg.

Half keema and half chop chop.

Lovely lean meat so I decided to cook a traditional lamb rogan josh.

Jeera, dhaniya, garam masalla and fennel powders all go well with lamb.

Not restaurant style but a tangy slightly sour dish.

But didn't get any yoghurt or tomatoes which give a sour taste so used plum tomatoes from a tin.

It was nice. Really nice.

Made some nice potatoes to compliment and used my secret Kashmiri masalla paste to give a hot kick. Also I microwaved the potatoes first so they lovely and soft. They also cooked quicker.

Just finished watching "Big Trouble in Little China."

Muppet, numpty and eck number eeediot.......he ain't leaving but we can all live in hope. WS doing okay. A rough, crude bad boy diamonique diamond. WNs doing fine me thinks although he does go out for a lot more cigs than normal.......mmmm think think think......yep, got it......!!

Oh yeah, the girls went shopping the other day and I got a lovely kebab back. Although by then I'd already eaten fish'n'chips with the kids and was a bit round........

I usually celebrate with some food so here was my happy food. Bought it just before noon and the batter on the Chicken Fillet Burger was still fresh and crispy. You guys are so lucky that I remembered to take a picture of it. It usually doesn't last that long....although it took me ages to eat it. The bite on the picture was the biggest I could do. I split my lips doing so.

Not Quite a Karahi King Burger....

LBN or WN as you know him went shopping over the weekend. Something important......anyway all he could dribble about was a Karahi King Burger. A triple stack with salad and cheese and mayo and just loveliness. Just loveliness.......

Anyway after a year the new menu is nearing completion although the brief may change again. In fact it has.......so hang in there and we'll get it sorted by next year.
Having said that I keep coming up with new dishes......for example Tikka Mixed Grill. A luscious mix of Chicken Tikka, Haryali Chicken, Malai Chicken Tikka, Lamb Tikka and a new Spicy Tikka which is chicken tikka with an extra spicy marinade. All cooked fresh to order so maximum freshnesss and served with a fine cut salad with dhaniya, green chillis and drizzled in mustard oil. A Bengal salad. Also a side dish of spinach and potaoes......I'm hungry.

Anyway our new stuffed pepper style should be popular. Half roasted sweet red pepper stuffed with fresh bhuna lamb mince, vegetables or spicey mash. The mash is lovely and smooth with a red chilli flake kick.

Salmon Tikka

Went shopping the other day. There was a sale on at Debenhams. Upto 25% off. That's 25% off their allegedly already inflated prices which they kept high for the legal 2 weeks of the year so they can legally claim an authentic 25% off sale. So it's really not 25% off our usual prices but 25% of our 2 week high prices. I went in 'bout 3 weeks ago looking at a pair of jeans. 501s I think. £65 they were. Usually they are £50-55. Surpise surprise they were in the sale......

Tuesday was a busy night. No police or big bills like monday so it felt a lot busier. Had a couple of Spaniards come in. Jeans and body piercing complete. They seemed pleasant enough. Until some regular customers said they felt sick due to the smell coming from them. They dayn't leave a tip either.

Spiced Onions

Been trying for years to make spiced onions........Oh my life I may have cracked it. MC with TK then some M & a little C with S to finish. Onions chopped finely of course.

Last night we made Spiced Tilapia Fillets and Bengali Style Maas using Tilapia fillets. The fish is not the best but we decided on the sauce. Nice....

Was busy for a monday night.

>The waiting takeaway customers looked at us, looked at them and then looked at us again.

Half ten came and went......at 10 to 11 they came in. They ate. They enjoyed. They paid and then left a shulo phon tip from a shite phon bill! WA said fags on me then....I said of course. Once you lose a stone in weight and put some deodorant on. He laughed. I laughed. We left at 10 past 12. He still smelled.......

Had some weirdo customers in on saturday. They were upset their Manchurian Chicken was milder than a Koorma. Impossible. He says he goes to another restaurant and their JalFereze was medium. Curry strentgh is relative. My medium curry could be your madras curry. They finished it all off though.......bandor
Later that night on the same table we had a lady who loved the sound of her own voice. Asta fagol. "I should be dead" she kept saying. " I nearly died" she moaned. All she did was fall down a couple of steps.
That table is now officially the fagol sagol table.

They all went shopping on saturday. Something about a Christmas Day.........anyway I took the kids to football then had fish and chips on the way back. The owner of the chippy is really friendly and always uses fresh tongs for me when I go. He also fries his oink products separately from his fish and chips. Anyway family went shopping and I got a kebab back. Sorted. Very nice.

It was a 'orible night weatherwise and it was thus quiet at work. Quite a few familiar faces.
WA was in a mood. He only had 2 sticks tonight and was upset over something. When he like that he's an absolute pain. His head has gone and he bear-disha mood all night. Numpty.

Meanwhile WS survived his birthday and says he has turned over a new leaf. Will wait and see......

Made myslef a keera mint murghee. It was nice and spicy with green chilli and chilli flakes.

Looks like no football for the wee man 2mrw morning. I can hear the rain outside. And the wind. So might get a lie in. Until the Beasts invade our room under 'can I go to the toilet?' pretence.....

They showing the England v Brazil friendly on ITV later. As it's a friendly Jimmy, Ash and Warney should get a kick. Although depends what mood the Samba boys are in.......looking forward to it. BTW can you imagine Wayne 'gunda gorilla' Rooney as potential Captain if Terry ain't fit. Gone are days when being captain for your country means being articulate, a motivator and have a certain dignified manner & self respect. Not grunt when you open your mouth and run about like a headless bull every time you get challenged hard. My life.

Thursdays normally my day off but had to go into work 'cos WS is off celebrating his birthday...

Had a good lunch......homemade nachos with salsa and lovely melted cheese followed by baked tatties with tuna mayo sweetcorn filling. I felt a bit like an aloo after as well.

Kids' parents evening earlier. Let it be known that they have made us proud. Beast Z is doing exceptionally well and is getting additional teaching for her numeracy and is in the top stream for most other subjects if not all. Beast Y is doing just as well and his reading & writing is progressing very well. MA they are developing well and will cost me in rewards this week.....

Work was quiet. It was raining very heavily and we had a couple of leaks in the restaurant. Made myself a Keera ki Murghee. Made it the other day but tried it with some tomato puree to give colour and a slightly sour taste. The other nights' was better.....

I think one of my goldfish is getting old. It swims about then always goes back to the same place behind the artificial plant and next to the Greco/Roman columns(!) and just kisses one of the 'leaves.' It's had a good run and has been with us a couple of years. Although looking at it now it seems to be doing ok....

Tired now.......going to amend the menu yet again and then get some sleep.

Homemade Spicy Nuts!!

Okay not CurryHouse food but the other half/quarter/three quarters, depending on which way you look at it, is at work tonight so made the beasts their dinner.

Made myself some spicy nuts........unsalted nut mix (brazil, hazel, almonds.....) coated in olive oil, garam masalla, chilli, cumin, paparika in the oven at 180degrees for 10-15 minutes. Then let it rest on tissue paper and added salt before serving. Think I will try mustard oil next time and add more chilli. Olive oil doesn't lend itself to spices as well as veg or mustard oil. You can experiment with other spices but chilli & paprika should be a constant. Gives bite and colour...

The chicken wings.........oh crap I've left 'em in the oven!!!!!!..........
.......................they're ok. A touch overdone on one side so need to be eaten straight away.

WN & LSL said that I reminded them of Lenny Henry. I do take that as a compliment but he is rather large now but is still very very so handsome and so very extremely funny is so. Can't for the life of me think why I remind them of Lenny Henry.

At work tonight.

WSs 21st birthday 2mrw. We had a good chat today and as usual I did my you should know better talk. He has some warped views on forgiveness. I think he trying, whichever way he can, to make a change & do something but he keeps getting sucked back in.

Had a good chat to a customer about Christmas and how he & his family were looking forward to it from a Christian point of view......we then chatted about Eid & Ramadhan from a family and religious view and how 'hard' it would be the next few summers. Then compared the benefits of fasting & Lent. Jihad can take many forms......

Made a lovely chicken dish but as usual only remembered to take a picture when I'd chucked it down. Sorry....
Curry chicken with a touch of mixed powder of haldi, dhaniya, jeera, paprika & garam masalla.
Firstly sweated down onions, methi, g&g and green chillis.
Then added some chopped tomato, half moon cut cucumber and added the spices.
The dish was given a tangy kick with mint and red Kashmiri chilli flakes.
Added a touch of gravy and water and a sprinkle of garam masala just before serving.
It was quite yum & I'm a bit miffed I did not take a picture. Next time. Promise....
As for a name.....it's not regional or a traditional authentic dish but a mish mash of chicken, mint, cucumber & garam masalla.
Murg Aza Baza or Ada Bada Murg or Ulta Falta ki Murgi.
Don't think there's a literal translation for mish mash.

How I hate the arrogance of the Brummie Lasan twits. When the other team got 27/50 for their main course you could see the Lasan business partner & his wife/girlfriend/escort laughing their heads off in the background.
The Lasan group pride themselves in not serving trad Indian restaurant food, for eg chicken tikka masalla but like to cook proper Indian food. All the rest are bourgeois trash.
You cocky twats don't you realise that you have only got to your lofty perch, looking down on all the common restaurant people because of the blood, sweat & tears of those pioneers decades ago who have slowly spice-ified the British palate. If they hadn't maybe you would, terror of terrors, still be serving and cooking chicken tikka masalla and garnishing it with cream and almond slices. All the best you fluffy batty looking boys, but don't you dare knock the hard working majority.

It only needs to be trialled in the Premier League to see how it goes. Just as 2 extra officials are used in the Europa League this year. Dodgy decisions, diving, hidden fouls etc annoy every one. New menu should be up & running soon as BBB has sourced some salmon fillets. We mentioned to an old customer we are starting a new menu soon......"why" he squeaked "you've had this one for 20 years!" I told him it was longer actually and didn't mention that his looks hadn't improved over time. He's been coming to us for over 20 years......we've got quite a few customers like that.

WN is progressing well. Suddenly he can pick up plates & look cool doing it, that is, not looking as if he going to drop everything! Also he was asking some questions 'bout football & casually said that Stourbridge lost against Walsall. Fascinating.

Funny customer......"would you like any coffee or desserts?" The bloke looks at me "yes please" I wait......& wait........& wait 4 him to say what he would like. He says diddly. His woman friend realises & asks for the bill. Still cant work it out. I think he had a few pennies missing or a sauce short of a biryani.

Worst moment was when BBB & WN started talking all geeky 'bout computers, memory, SATA & processors......I didn't have a scooby so I just smiled, nodded & asked what make the laptop was then ran off looking for some food.

Okay Usain 'Lightening' Bolt has adopted a new cheetah as a reminder to the dangers of extinction and to also highlight the plight of Kenya National Wildlife Reserve Park. He is paying thousands of dollars to adopt a cheetah and thousands yearly to help look after it........I'm sure he does donate thousands to humanitarian causes as well........

Last night was steady.........served a family table of four. They've been in a few times but only realised our ceiling is made from the roofs of guards vans. I did feel bad as the tablecloth was a tad dirty.....it was so busy thursday-saturday that we ran out of cloths.They were happy and enjoyed a kulfi and gulabjam for dessert. We told 'em to have it hot with ice cream bit they wanted it plain.....criminal.
WA was saying that Mr Volvo came in with his family sunday night. We were getting worried about them as they live close to the new restaurant & thought they had abandoned us!! But he came back......"food was okay, service was not. Lot better here" he said of the new place. Fair enough. Nice to hear. Never leaves a tip though. As long as they keep saying hello we cool..........

It's nice working with WA....every 20 minutes or so he says "I like working with you bhaisab." We have a laugh, mainly at his expense, then I feel bad and remind him that he's good with customers and has a good manner with them.........

Back to work later. Saturday was busy.
Very surprising as it was Strictly X-Factor and Halloween.

Halloween started off as a Celtic festival with some roots as a
Christian celebration,
but now is a purely secular/capitalist/money making festival....

WA came back to work saturday night. He was a little spaced out,
which was understandable.
I think he wanted to get away from all the chaos at home.
It was good to see him and he vows to stay on the straight and narrow.
Hope he does as he has a good heart that a lot of people take advantage of.

Loads of new customers on saturday as well as our regulars.
Thursday through Saturday were so busy we ran out of curry chicken.
A first for our chef! Having said that we sold a lot of trad curries like bhuna,
rogan josh and so forth which all use normal chicken rather than tikka.

Will try to finalise the new menu this week.......
.........should be up & running in a year or so......

WaiterA' dad passed away earlier this week, so he been off work since tuesday. May he be protected in the grave, his sins forgiven & he kept at peace until the day of judgement. WaiterS has been down in London at his Uncles wedding. So thursday night it was the 3 Amigos.

It goes without saying that it was really busy and I sweated. Customers were all nice as well.......

Oh before I forget WaiterN had FagFlu for the week and that is the only really real excuse I can afford him for being such a woman. I mean would you eat Daal without Tarka or how about Chicken Tikka without salad, chilli & mint sauce? No, of course not. So why put petrol in a diesel car? Me tinks he was tinking of the kebab he was going to yam....

Bozo, muppet, off his head, fagol sagol, loco, clunky, badami, flippy, bonkers, loopy, different planet....oh & to top it off he tried to knock some sense into himself by headbutting The Arcade Connection.

Everton away later on........an injury time goal from Ashley will do fine. It might kick start his season. We doin' quite well even though he off colour for most of this season. When he gets back to anywhere near his best and with Downing soon ready we will be good. Really good. Although I still reserve the right to lose against Hull!
I may keep football out of here......it quite divisive but it does have a CurryHouseBlues interest as the gundayn at the restaurant follow it. I think there is a financial interest in it though........oh and by the way 'Blues' does not refer to Small Heath!!!

Okay, been away for a while and those links daen't work. Do not know why and do not know how to find out........maybe it will just change one day......all by it-spooky-self....

Anyway stop shouting at me. I'm gonna tell you whats been going on at you know where....it's been busy. Still surprising due to the other restaurants opening up. We've just heard another one may be coming.....

Waiter A (WA) is still moaning 'bout Waiter S (WS). Had a right go at him the other day over mango chutney. Got himself in a right pickle over it....got sorted in the end with WA as usual did it himself. I'm sure WS was sniggling (that's a new word....not a giggle or or a snigger but a sniggle. I'm doing it now..)
WA moans but always ends up doing it anyway.....and always I tell him not to wipe WS' arse. He always does though.....ooooh, just had a 'orrible vision. Oh my life...help.

As usual the customers were good value......the regular couple, who by the way, are so ugly you'd think you were looking at WAs hairy buttocks, came in, cracked some really really absolutey hilariously un-funny jokes. They ate, loved the food, tried to get us to buy him a drink (I know!!!), paid the bill, and gave us a tip like "if it's cold, wear warm clothing".....oh well, we love 'em really.

It's Raining!!

For the first time in ages, it seems, its raining. Just when we going to London on a Dads & Lads (& one little girl!) trip. Having said that today seems the only day like this and the sun should be shining come Saturday. Little man doesn't want to go though as he usually plays football Saturday morning......

I'm trying to add links here to sites of interest. Bear with me if it don't work. The first one is about a film called The Cove.....we humans know how to abuse, eradicate & totally not live in sync with our surroundings. Why should we have the right to maintain our way of life at the expense of diluting somebody elses or even the planets & its guests way of life?
Balance is such a fine concept. One slight adjustment can be catastrophic and the damage possibly permanent.

I think that may have worked.......okay back to work tomorrow.

MOT & Kebabs.....

Well back to work monday night.....

Waiter A was happy. He always is when working with me. Don't know why. I think he may have won some dollars over the weekend......he didn't ask for a sub either.
Waiter S new found morals didn't last long........
Oh I forgot about Waiter N. Sorry 'bout this but I didn't really classify him as a waiter 'cos he can't serve or pick up plates yet. But he can set up a table. Which is nice.

New menu coming on nicely. Had a look at the new restaurants' menu. Nothing to be worried about. We need to up our game and maintain our standards. It's going to be a tad quiet, as always during October. Still can't figure out why everyone wants to open a curry house here.
Tried a new dish the chef made. He is quite creative when he wants to be. Butter Tikka Poori. Tikka chicken cooked in a rich creamy sauce served on a poori bread complimented by side salad. Forgot to take a picture. Ooops.

My fave dish name is Sabji Badami Masalla.
But my fave yum dish would be Balti Kebab Kofta Masalla.....chopped shish kebab cooked in a spicy tanddori masalla sauce. Although Shish Kebab Paneer Chilli Masalla sounds just as nice as does King Prawn Spice & Chicken Tikka Red.
Will post pictures when I eat 'em all.

Popadum taster and our homemade chips crushed slightly & well fried to extra crisp the edges then salted and dressed with lemon juice, chilli powder and something else really really nice...

Took the car into town to get MOT done. Was a bit worried as I know it needs work. Miraclously it passed although it does need new tyres, discs & pads. Let alone a service......
Whilst the car was being examined I felt a red matter pull to my old kebab house I used to visit when doing restaurant shopping years back.
They do THE best chilli sauce/kebab combination in the world ever.
Their shish kebabs haven't changed in years.
Bit like us really......

Shashlik Chicken

Okay, firstly a shout out with a huge mixed grill to my first "follower."
I salute you.

Right firstly I must say I'm knackered. Woke up this morning to beast No1 stroking my arm followed by the usual "can I go to the toilet" from beast No2.
Took them to Sunday School then played badminton for an hour. Played some blinding shots followed by some really monkey shots. Need to stay in the zone as they say. Not pat myself on the back after totally wrong footing my opponent.
Ruthless. Controlled aggression. Singular mind set. Visualisation. Come on!!
Sweated so much and my top kept rubbing........remind me next week to use vaseline....
Gotta go as the other half has just come in......enjoy the shashlik chicken.

Tikka Bhuna Masalla Special

Okay, saturday night at the CurryHouse was busy busy busy. Fascinating really considering another restaurant opened this week. As usual now during Dancing with X-Factor is on it's fairly steady with a rush of take-aways. Didn't get going till 'bout 9. Everyone seemed happy. Quite a few new customers as well. Always a good sign.
Most liked overheard comment "food is always good and they are so friendly here." T'riffic.
Anyway the laundry didn't deliver enough tablecloths and of course everyone decides to eat off the pristine white clothes instead of the brand new white plates we've only just had delivered. I really do wonder what their table manners are like at home and at other cuisine restaurants......better behaved at Mackies me tinks.
Waiter A missed out on an early snack the chef had made. He was in a mood all night......although it could also be that his head was off planet 'cos, as usual, he was thinking he had won over 2.5K on the football........he'll never learn. He's spent way more on fags and bookies than he's ever won. I think he should go to Saudi again.
Waiter S was great.......he's stopped smokin' & boozin'. He's head was clear and he keeps saying "I feel great." He still ain't back with his girl but maybe just maybe.......although he still looks like an anaemic mushroom with his hair all shaved off. Long may it continue although the wheel on a bike always goes round.
Off tonight........sorry to say will be watching X-Factor results show later.

Why Don't Kids Stay in Bed Longer......?

As it's football day the little man woke up extra early. Oh and to ask if he can go to the toilet. Cute. But annoying. He played really well again but got upset when he was asked to go round the cones that he missed. He was the quickest and used both feet and did not lose control of the ball. He just needs to control his emotions a bit!!

Saturday night at the CurryHouse should be busy. But with a new restaurant opening and X-Factor & Strictly Come Dancing with Racists on it may be quiet.

Off to feed the inmates now......will post later with pictures.

Friday Night...

Malayan Chicken Biryani

Well we up to full staff tonight after the bar boy returned from his adventures up north.....just when it was not busy!
Can you believe another restaurant has opened......that's 10 in the area! Also just heard another 2 are opening soon. Ok, there's healthy competition and closing people down. Looks like our worst enemy ain't only the supermarket juggernaut......

Waiter S was really happy today cos his girlfriend phoned him to see how he was. They broke up last week. He says he's giving up the drink and being a good boy. Only time will tell.....

Waiter A was doing his usual Honey Monster impersonation and wondering around half caked.....it's football tomorrow so he's wondering if his bets will come in. Every 10 minutes he'll ask me about this match and that match. I just tell him the opposite of what I think he has put his money on. He then walks around all gaga thinking "oh shit, what have I done?" There is form for this. During the last round of World Cup Qualifiers I told him what I thought the results would be. The scores all came in. He kept saying after "I 'lost' 800 squid"

I had a tikka biryani with tarka dal on top for dinner. Nice. Could put it on the menu "Tikka Dal Biryani." If I like it then the customers will. For sure.

If you've not seen the new Star Trek film then do so. Its fab. It brill. It's fascinating.

Live Long & Prosper

Spicy Enda Bread

Ok took the kids to school this morning. In the car - looked really cold out the window.
Came back and was starving so made myself some enda bread. With a bit of spice, which made it nice......

Egg, milk, salt, pepper, dry chilli flakes and the special ingredient - chat masalla powder. This is my secret ingredient in most of my dishes. Spicy and tangy.... didn't take a photo - didn't last that long. Don't forget the bread. Don't soak it for long otherwise it gets too soggy.

Also really pleased with myself as I had a plum, pear and a nanana today. Wish I cold keep it up. Made up with it though with onion rings crisps.....I'm afraid it's a tradition to go to the Co-Op after my sons football on saturday morning and get a pack of salt&vinegar sticks and a pack of onion rings for a squid. Bargain.......

Well here is half the chicken I've marinated. Probably cook in the grill on a medium heat. Should seal up quickly and keep moist. Can't wait........

The other half I 1/4ed and fried. Was going to give the kids 2 pieces each. But it tasted so nice I had 2 pieces and they had a piece each. Gave 'em extra veg though. It's better for them anyway.

I've changed the colour scheme. However I think there will be many more changes to come.

Off tonight...

Well I'm off tonight, but the other half is working. So the kids get my undivided attention. Got a baby chicken out so will cook that off for them. Daughter got another sticker for answering questions again in class. She makes me proud. Geek. My son just about made it out of school after 'falling of a cupboard and hurting his back.' He spent the next 15 minutes bouncing along the school assault course. Monkey.
Going to finish the new menu later. Will post pix of some of the dishes if I can get the ahng of posting properly.....
